Molecular Ladder to Freedom – DNA Exoneration MiniLab (M3018TAE)

Description

In recent years, DNA testing has emerged as a powerful tool in criminal investigations, not only to establish guilt, but also to exonerate the wrongfully convicted. In this hands-on MiniLab, students examine up to five simulated scenarios in which an incarcerated individual is appealing their conviction, and using post-conviction DNA testing to support their claim of innocence. Students delve into the application of DNA testing to support claims of innocence, shed light on various evidence types and the factors that contribute to wrongful convictions to gain valuable insights into the complexities of exoneration cases and the crucial role of DNA testing in achieving justice.

Materials Included in each MiniLab

Each MiniLab contains enough materials for 10 workstations, 2 – 3 students per workstation.

Materials include:

• • Five Ready-to-Load DNA samples
  • Molecular Weight Marker 500 bp
  • Ten 1% agarose GreenGel™ GelCups
  • 100 mL Tris-Acetate-EDTA (TAE) buffer concentrate
  • One bag of 0.65 mL microcentrifuge tubes
  • One bag of 2 – 200 µL micropipette tips
